After graduating from fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York, in 1981, Dr. Pepper served in a variety of academic positions at Downstate Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York Medical College, and NYU School of Medicine.
In 1996 Dr. Pepper relocated from New York to Florida where he maintains a busy endocrinology practice in addition to pursuing independent research as an Associate Professor at University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine.
That same year, Dr. Pepper launched the website Metabolism.com. Since then he has posted numerous articles related to thyroid disease, diabetes, obesity and medical politics.
In 2019, because of the desire to raise awareness about the controversies surrounding the treatment of hypothyroidism “The Thyroid Project” was established at Metabolism.com. To stay connected to thinking at the national level, he continues to serve on committees for both the American Thyroid Association and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
Dr. Pepper says:
We live in the Age of Misinformation. We communicate so fast and with so many people that if we aren’t careful about what it is we are saying, bad information can spread across the globe in a few days.
There are those who try to profit by pretending to have unique understanding of common medical problems then offer to solve these problems at an inflated price. Meanwhile, the medical profession is undermined by teachers who are paid to promote commercial interests, and by practitioners who don’t question these ‘experts’ .
Metabolism.com has no financial relationships with any pharmaceutical companies or device makers establishing the site as one of the few providing medical information without conflict of interest.
The goal for the coming years is to have Metabolism.com serve as a popular platform for unbiased perspectives on critical subjects in the field of endocrinology and metabolism. Please support this effort by sharing the website with your friends and family.“
