Researchers sent questionnaires to 38,000 women between the age of 55 and 69, who were participating in the Iowa Women’s Health Study. After 9 years, the researchers compared the diets, lifestyles and health status of the surviving women with those that died. Women that averaged 8 servings of whole grains a week had approximately 15% lower risk of dying than women who consumed fewer servings.
